C.M.Hawkins
Chad Hawkins' affinity and love for the muddy roots of rock and roll comes honestly and directly. Raised in Southern Louisiana, Hawkins cut his creative teeth immersed in the music and culture of the Gulf Coast and the foundations of the Americana sound. It was here he digested the full platter of the melody, rhythm, structure and attitudes of the great Americana melting pot: Cajun, Creole, African, European stances developing an authentic swampy worldview incubated in dance halls, juke joints and dive bars - Hell, he literally caught the bus to school on HWY 61.
Bio continued
Hawkins got his bones with the bass guitar after his first professional gig at the age of 16 in the infamous Howlin' Wolf club in New Orleans and soon after migrated to Houston, Texas where he found his gears performing with heavyweights of the country and roots music scene there including Johnny Falstaff, Sean Reefer, Lucky Tubb and multiple projects with Dan Johnson of Hank3 fame.
After several European tours Hawkins moved to Germany and continued his career as a touring bass slinger for acts such as The Silverettes, The LenneRockers, Adriano Baltoba Trio, Peggy Sugarhill Lucky Tubb, Julian Primeaux and Drew Landry.
So after many years as a sideman the call of the creative wild has accepted the invitation - picking up the banjo and getting to work on his own unique voice and vision of post modern Americana music.
And mining the hard rock of his north American roots and revisited his own creative muse and swampy bloodline Hawkins discovered a both dirty and divine equation featuring raucous stripped down versions of old-time story tunes, mountain boogie, haunted gospel and Mississippi blues.
It's a swampy, muddy, gritty soulful and authentic brew.
